The Libertarian Syndicalist Union (ESE Athens) sends support and solidarity greeting to the employees of the printing of AGR-Clarin newspaper in Argentina that are in multi-day struggle (occupation of the workplace), asking to revoke their colleagues layoffs.

We denounce the strikebreaking tactic of the employer, which in order to break the mobilization, he prints the Sunday edition of the newspaper in the neighboring country of Chile. The business committee of the AGR-Clarin workers sent a letter to the Chilean unions and in the union of Argentine truckers, asking for their solidarity: not to print or transfer the scabs form.

The struggle of the workers in the printing facilities of Clarin is part of the general struggle of the Argentine labor movement against the government’s austerity measures Macri, as well as against the anti-working-class choices of the bosses. The Macri government attacks on workers’ achievements and tries to remove rights and freedoms conquered through struggle. The attempt to repress and dismantle the self-managed Bauen Hotel in Buenos Aires, it’s one more example of the anti-labor aggression. Read the rest of this entry »

Text of the Libertarian Syndicalist Union of Athens, sent to our email.

Τhe Bauen Hotel in Argentina is about to close down, after 14 years of operation by workers self-management. Through a law passed by the Congress of Argentina on November 30 of 2016, the property was expropriated for the benefit of the worker’s cooperative. Nevertheless, the President of Argentina Mauricio Macri decided to exercise his veto right against expropriation law.

Apart from the fact that the workers and their families will find themselves in a difficult financial situation, it is important that the Argentine state decided to hit one of the most emblematic companies recuperated by workers. Through the blow to the Bauen cooperative, the state attempts to hit all of the recuperated businesses and the horizontal-management movement that was developed in the country.

This very minute, inside and outside Argentina a pressure movement has being developed , a movement that invites members of the House of Representatives and Senate to reject the presidential veto and ratify the law expropriates the Bauen Hotel for the benefit of its employees, therefore to prevent eviction them from the hotel. The Libertarian Union of Athens (ESE) invites every workers’ collective, every base union, every trade union, labor collectives and every individual worker or employee, both women and men, to support the self-organized Bauen hotel, and to join their voice to the international pressure of the working class and social movement, so that the workers in Bauen emerge victorious. Denouncement-declaration by the Libertarian Syndicalist Union (ESE Athens) about the beating of Kostas Paloukis.

The Libertarian Syndicalist Union (ESE Athens) denounces the unprovoked, unnecessary and paramilitary attack of Kostas Paloukis by a team of members of refugee housing squat of Gini building at the National Technical University of Athens – Historical Polytechnic School of the November 17th 1973 uprising.

in the afternoon of June 10th 2016 Kostas Paloukis found himself inside the Gini building trying to locate the area within the campus where an open event under the name “Initiative for an Anticapitalist and Revolutionary ANTARSYA” (Antarsya is a small extra-parliamentary left party) would take place. In his attempt to communicate by cellphone with the organizers of the event, he was surrounded by people who were members of the squat and who demanded his phone to check for photographs. He replied that he is a member of NAR and ANTARSYA and he was heading to the event. After refusing to surrender his phone, these people started to call him an undercover agent and begun hitting him repeatedly on his body and face inflicting injuries.

The historian Kostas Paloukis is well known within the wider anti-capitalist movement. He is known as a fighter of the extra-parliamentary left. The logic which is described by “anyone that we don’t know, is an informer or agent” and the practice of gangster violence (lynch-mob), similar to that of fascist hordes, has no place within the revolutionary and antagonistic movement. It can not have any relation to the anti-authoritarian and libertarian movement. So, as ESE we condemn this practice without a second thought. Such practices are also opposed to the fundamentals and principles of the refugee solidarity movement. If it could ever be possible, in the name of immigrants/refugees to act as lynch-mob warriors! We publish here a text sent to us by the Libertarian Syndicalist Union of Athens about their Solidarity Fund.

The Solidarity Fund of the Libertarian Syndicalist Union (ESE Athens) has been in operation for 5 years. The idea for a permanent solidarity fund was born, when on the 31st October 2009 we gathered after a music night, 1060 euros, which we sent to cover the legal expenses of 6 arrested members of ASI (Anarcho-syndicalist Initiative of Serbia). Another music night followed on the 15th of May 2010. In this way we raised 561 euros. This money was the basis for the creation of the Solidarity Fund.

This Solidarity Fund is about supporting exclusively individuals, for example employees, the unemployed , immigrants who are in need due to been sacked or unemployed, have fallen ill, been in an accident or another social reason, also employees who have been on strike or are mobilized in a struggle (we call this a strike aid). The solidarity aid that we usually offer is about 200 euros. From this fund we don’t offer aid to collectives who are in struggle, i.e. an aid with which is to be used for the needs of a mobilization (for example propaganda e.tc). Such actions of solidarity are covered from the regular fund of ESE. Read the rest of this entry »
